CONCEPTUAL SELF PORTRAIT

M: Manual A:5 S:1/200 I:3200 L:55 mm

Conceptual means relating to or based on mental concepts. This photo is an example of conceptual because, I view myself as a ready and on task person. I made sure to take a picture of my everyday items because, it captures everything needed to get through a day of school. I like to think of myself as a leader, so I come to school prepared each and every day. My computer is showing a checklist, saying how I get my work done. I have my pencil box opened showing that I come to school prepared, and I have my backpack in frame to show where everything goes. I like to bring a jacket to school because not only does it keep me warm, I feel comfortable wearing it and it is always nice to have on hand.

When people such as my friends see these objects, they would probably be able to picture me immediately, since these objects are uniquely connected to me. It’s been forever since I have seen another pencil box, and I am the only student who I know wears that dark blue wind breaker. Being prepared feels nice, even being too prepared. It is better to have things that you don’t need, than need things you don’t have. My school work and everything I need for schoolwork is inside that backpack, and I like to connect that to me, bring prepared.

Cindy Sherman

I really respect and admire Cindy’s work because each and every self portrait is totally different. Each self portrait is difficult to imagine that the subject is one person because of how much they differ. Each story in every beautiful artwork tells itself, and makes the audience stare. Some of Cindy’s work can rather be beautiful or disturbingly satisfying. Im glad she was able to get famous because this work deserves recognition.

Some ways I could get inspired for my photography is

watching a movie, learning lighting techniques, participate in a photowalk, gain inspiration from other popular photoblogs, listen to good music, read a book or magazine, take pictures at a sporting event, walk outside and slowly observe everything around me in a 360 degree manner, have a theme like Christmas for my next photoshoot, take a picture of someone who is important to me, visit an art show, challenge myself to get a specific photo, take family portraits, take pictures of my favorite food, night time shooting, take pictures on my next family trip, take a self portrait, nature shooting, watching the day pass by and notice the change in setting, or simply take pictures of an object.

My inspiration

Some things that help with my creativity is having an empty mind, delicious food, cold water, relaxing music, energy to create things on the spot, a relaxing scenery for my brain to work, other ideas to get inspiration from, being comfortable, brainstorming with other people to spark off of them, feeling clean, feeling happy, knowing what I want to achieve, and trying new things.

PAINTING WITH LIGHT

This is a beautiful almost portrait photo of a woman with a ring behind her. I love this image because the bright ring behind her helps with lighting and gives her a golden a glow behind her. I love this image because, she was able to stay still and look gorgeous in this photo. I think the photographer was able to capture this photo by using a tripod and setting his camera’s shutter speed to 10 full seconds. They also must of had a tiny aperture and an ISO of 200. I also think this photo required a crew, a person shooting the camera, a person moving the light in a perfect circle, and of course the subject standing completely still. I think image is so eye appealing because of the beautiful ring and the jewelry of the woman. The portrait shot of her is great, and the lighting helps with the image very much.

RAW vs JPEG

  1. The main difference between raw and a jpeg file is its size and image quality.
  2. RAW files are significantly bigger than any other file formats.
  3. You can convert a RAW image into a jpeg by using software such as Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, which enables you to process RAW files, edit, and export as a JPEG or PNG
  4. If I were shooting an important event, I would shoot in RAW because, it would have it’s highest image quality. Although the process may take longer, RAW files have a wider dynamic range and far greater color spectrum than JPEGs.
